Tiger Cubs (entering 1st grade or age 7), Wolf Cubs (entering 2nd or age 8), Bear Cubs (entering 3rd or age 9) Webelos Scouts (entering fourth or fifth grade, or age 10).

What does Cub Scouting offer my son?
Cub Scouting offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness. Service projects, ceremonies, games, and other activities guide boys through the core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, boys also learn honesty, bravery, and respect.

How does participation in Cub Scouting affect participation other activities?
The Cub Scout program is designed to compliment many other extracurricular activities. The typical time commitment is 3 Den meetings and 1 Pack meeting per month.  Den and pack meetings are 1 hour long.  Boys who participate in organized sports or academic-based extracurricular activities can be recognized for these activities through the Cub Scout Sports and Academics belt loop and pin program.

What are the responsibilities of a parent?
  • Provide help and support for the den and pack.
  • Work with your son on advancement projects and activities.
  • Attend pack meetings with your son.
  • Attend and assist with den outings.

Do Cub Scouts go camping?
Yes, but camping is not the exclusive focus of Cub Scouts.  Cub Scouting focuses on teaching the scout to be a good citizen and to prepare him for Boy Scouts.  Pack 27 tries to do 2 campouts per year either as a Pack or with individual dens.  The council has ample opportunities to camp as a family throughout the year.

How much is it going to cost?
Pack 27 charges $10.00 a scout per year for pack dues. Dues are collected at the begining of every school year. We do a popcorn fundraiser to help pay for supplies and events.  All scouts are expected to participate.  The $10.00 dues are meant to supplement our popcorn income and will help cover rank badges and other awards for the scouts.

New and renewing members are required to submit applications with the local Boy Scouts of America Council. New members joining in February must pay $24.00. A prorated price must be paid for all new members joining in September. Parents who volunteer to be leaders will have their registration fees paid for by the pack when all training has been completed.

Other costs may include uniforms, books, pack party fees (minimal), and optional council events or special scout nights.  Please do not let the costs discourage you from participating.  Uniforms can be purchased at resell shops or handed down from older scouts to new ones.  All parties and events are optional.

What do I need for my uniform?  Where can I buy uniforms?
Pack 27 requires the following for uniforms:  Scout Shirt (blue for Cubs, tan for Webelos), Pack Numbers (2 & 7), Mid-America Council Patch, Rank Neckerchief and Slide.  Scouts can wear blue jean or khaki shorts or pants with their uniform.  No gym shorts.  There are plenty of optional uniform pieces that can be purchased if you would like, including hats, belts, shorts, socks, etc.
